Spiritual Direction Philosophy:
Spiritual direction, also known as spiritual companionship, is one-on-one spiritual guidance. Spiritual direction can be useful for people from all faith traditions or none, helping directees reflect on their spiritual questions, journeys and longings. Spiritual direction can be particularly useful for Unitarian Universalists, the spiritual but not religious, and people who identify as interfaith. Spiritual direction helps with discernment, exploring spiritual practices like meditation, art or prayer, and awakening to the spiritual dimension of our lives.
I am trained in the evocative or non-directive model of spiritual direction through the Phoenix Center for Spiritual Direction. In this model, the directee leads the process and articulates their insights, with the spiritual director acting as their companion or guide. I will not give you advice or tell you what you need to do. I will use tools like contemplative listening, questions and gentle guidance to help you connect with your higher self, perceive your deep longings, or perceive where the sacred might be showing up in your life. I trained in this method because it so profoundly transformed my life as a directee, helping me perceive the sacred in my life no matter the circumstances, even in seasons of chronic illness, struggle and desolation.
