Philosophy of Spiritual Direction:

As a Unitarian Universalist, I understand the intent of spiritual direction / guidance to affirm the humanity, the worth and dignity, and the possibility of the individual person, including their place in their communities. Another way to say this is to affirm the person's relatedness with God, but in my tradition, that language does not work for everyone. The holy listening of a spiritual guide is intended to call forth from a person a sense of their own spiritual direction, the beginning of words to articulate that direction, and the will and capacities to move in it.
