Spiritual Direction Philosophy:

In our initial conversation I listen to their story and we explore why they are seeking spiritual direction at this time. At the end of that conversation (for which there is no charge) I offer my observations (if appropriate) and we decide whether to work together. That first conversation determines the approach I take with clients.

As spiritual companion I accompany people on their journey from where they are. I prefer to begin each session with a chalice lighting (if they are UUs) and a prayer/reading (if they are willing). Some clients come prepared with a particular issue to explore, while others respond to gentle probing about something that arose in the previous session. If they are floundering or simply free-associating, I ask: "where is God in this for you?" which usually calls them back to center. Areas in which I have expertise are life transitions, grief, chronic illness, healing, women's issues, addiction, LGBTIQ, and mental illness to cite a few.
